MANILA, Philippines – Kim Chiu’s role in her new movie hits close to home.

Chiu said she sees herself in her character in the upcoming romantic comedy film My Love Will Make You Disappear, which tells the story of a woman who believes she possesses a curse that makes every man she loves vanish.

Kinukwestiyon ko rin ‘yung sarili ko kung bakit nawawala ‘yung mga minamahal ko. Same as character ko rito, lagi rin siyang napapatanong na, bakit kaya sila nawawala?” Chiu told Rappler in an interview.

(I also question myself why the men I love disappeared. The same as my character here, she also wonders why they vanish.)

Chiu is more than a year removed since she confirmed her split with longtime boyfriend Xian Lim in December 2023.

The two were together for almost 12 years before they broke up following a “mutual decision.”

Before Lim, Chiu dated former onscreen partner Gerald Anderson from 2006 to 2010 — their love team, collectively known as Kimerald, spawning movies like I’ve Fallen For You, Paano Na Kaya, and Till My Heartaches End.

Chiu even candidly answered that she is not the best person to ask about long-term relationships.

Kuwento ko sa inyo pag kinasal na ako,” said Chiu in jest.

(I’ll tell you about it when I’m already married.)

In My Love Will Make You Disappear, Chiu stars alongside Paulo Avelino anew as they team up for their first film after the successful series Linlang in 2023 and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim in 2024.

Chiu admitted she did not imagine that her partnership with Avelino would grow this big considering they portrayed estranged married couples in Linlang.

Now, their movie will be released internationally in over 30 countries, including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, and those in the Middle East.

“This is all because of our supporters, the people who love us, who support us,” said Chiu.

Directed by Chad Vidanes, My Love Will Make You Disappear will be available in theaters starting on March 26. – Rappler.com
