MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced in a Facebook post at around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, October 2, that there was an “ongoing eruption” at Taal Volcano in Batangas.
Phivolcs has yet to provide further details about the eruption.
On Tuesday, October 1, the agency said it had observed a series of minor phreatic or steam-driven eruptions at the volcano. These “weak” events have totaled 17 since September 22.
Taal’s sulfur dioxide emissions also remain high, averaging 6,760 tons per day since January.
The volcano has been under Alert Level 1 or “in abnormal condition” since July 11, 2022. – Rappler.com
